Tween Crafty Bracelets

Tweens are in a very tricky stage of life. They want to be grown up, but they also are little kids. This makes entertaining them difficult as well. One fun way to keep tweens happy during the summer months and help them avoid boredom is to provide them with simple, but rewarding crafts:

Bracelets: Tweens are into being trendy and one of the things that they enjoy is wearing jewelry, so why not have them make it as a craft? You can make all kinds of different jewelry. If you visit a local crafting store, like Robert's craft, you will find an assortment of beads in every shape, color, size, and material imaginable. You will easily find clasps, wire to string your bracelets on and more. So, make a day of it with your tween. Take them to the craft store, and let them pick out beads to match their favorite outfits. They can make friendships bracelets, charm bracelets, or just a great fashion accessory to match their favorite shirt. You can add watch faces, and make beaded watch bands to add some practicality to the craft. There are endless possibilities with bracelets as crafts, and your tween will spend hours creatively designing jewelry they will love wearing, giving as gifts, and showing off to their friends.

Autumn Leaves Soap

This crafty soap will bring a touch of autumn into bathrooms and kitchens. This craft project is a new take on traditional soap and is super easy. Keep in mind that each of the leaves has enough soap on them for a single hand wash. When you're done, you can just toss them into the trash. Best of all they look (and smell) lovely in a decorative bowl.

What you will need:

  • About 4 oz. of clear melt and pour soap

  • Leaves from your craft supply or floral shop

  • Appropriate autumn fragrance oil (think cranberry, pumpkin etc.)

  • A glass bowl or dish

  • Some tongs

  • A sheet of wax paper

  • Basic tools for Melt and Pour Soap Making

Instructions for the project: The first step is to prepare the leaves. You will want to make sure that the dyes that are used in the leaves are color fast! Otherwise, you add the soap, the dyes will come off! Cut the leaves off of the stems. You will then need to cut and measure, your soap. Melt the soap in the microwave, until it is completely liquid. At his point you can add your chosen fragrance oil. Make sure the oil is completely stirred into the soap, before you move on to the next step. Now it's time to dip the leaves. Keep in mind that it is important that the soap be very liquid. If you need to, you can pop it back into the microwave for 15-30 second to get it nice and liquid. Using the tongs, dip the leaf into the soap and let it sit for at least 10 seconds. Be sure to let the excess soap drip off the leaves and back into your bowl. Gently place the leaves onto the wax paper, to dry. When the leaves have completely cooled, gently peel them off of the wax paper. If there is excess soap flowing off of the edges of the leaf, you can trim this easily with a pair of scissors. (Though it can look like "frost" on the leaves.) Place in a decorative bowl next to the sink, to impress family and friends.
