Kids love getting messy and they love using their hands to create something. What better way then to allow them to express themselves and contain the mess, than to allow them to color outdoors with chalk or finger paints. You can either purchase your chalk and paints from most super centers or craft stores or you can make them yourself. Handmade chalks and washable finger paints are easy to clean up as well. Simply take a hose and wash away the mess. Here are two links to detailed instructions for making these two art craft materials: Homemade Chalk and Washable Finger Paints).
Finger or Chalk Paintings
A fun way to be crafty near Easter time is to take the craft time outside and enjoy the spring weather. A simple bucket of chalk or some finger paints and smocks provide the base for an art project that a child of any age can do. If using finger paints, take your paper out into the yard so that if there is any mess, it ends up on the lawn instead of on your front porch. Side walk chalk is fun to work with and will easily wash off with the spray of your garden hose. Encourage the children to create activities with their artwork to make the experience more interactive. Hopscotch, marbles, mazes, etc. are all fun options. You can encourage your children to use such things as pine cones and leaves as stencils for their projects. Look around and be creative
