Planet Puzzles and Magnets

There are a number of different crafts that you can make by simply cutting out some pictures that you find in magazines or on the internet. You can make a planetary puzzle by taking a picture of something with an astronomy theme and cutting it up into smaller pieces. Test your knowledge by trying to put the pieces back together again. Make the puzzle sturdier by gluing the picture to a piece of heavy cardboard before you make it into pieces. You can use a similar concept to make magnets as well. Find a picture that you like and reinforce it with the cardboard backing. Attach a magnet to the back of the picture and there you have it. Find a picture of the whole solar system and cut out the planets to make individual magnets for your fridge. Add to your solar system slowly by learning more about individual planets and making more magnets of their planets, rings, etc.

Solar System Snacks

Snacks are always a winner when it comes to kids, so why not use snack time as an opportunity to make something neat and to learn about the solar system. Any round snacks will work for this project. You can use round fruit, cookies/cupcakes, or even a round cookie cutter to cut sandwiches or whatever other snacks into planet shapes. Arrange the shapes of snacks according to their rightful place in the solar system. You may even want to use frosting or food coloring to add details. This is one instance when it is not only ok to play with your food, but it is actually encouraged. If it is still safe, feel free to eat this craft when you are through.
