Autumn Leaf Placemats
A great way to help keep the kids busy and out of your kitchen while you are busy making your Thanksgiving feast is to help occupy them with making Thanksgiving decorations. They will have a blast making these fun crafts and will be excited to display their creations for the celebration.
Autumn Leaf Place Mats
Kids will enjoy making and using their very own place mats. And they are very versatile; you can use them over and over again! And don’t worry about clean up they wipe clean with a damp cloth.
You will need these items for this project.
•Several different kinds of different dried leaves
•Construction paper
•Acrylic paint and paint brushes
•Contact paper
Have the children start by gathering a good sized pile of leaves. Lightly paint the backs of the leaves with paint (the back will leave a better impression of the leaf) and press them to the construction paper. The paint will dry fairly quickly and after, you and the kids can decorate the borders of their place mat with craft scissors or markers. They can make designs throughout the leaves with the markers if they want as well. Laminate the place mats with the contact paper and trim the edges, leaving about 1 and ½ to 2 inches of laminate around the edge.
Apple Placecard Holder
This is a very unusual centerpiece, but is very beautiful. It is easy to make and you will love the uniqueness it will add to your decor. It is also very versatile and can be made and used at anytime for any occasion. You will enjoy the visual effect it has to offer.
You will need these items for your project:
•Large Rome Beauty apples (that will sit up straight on the table)
•Candles
•Waxed paper
•Potato peeler
•Lemon juice
Use an apple corer to make a hole in the top of the center of the apples. Be sure to make the hole as straight as possible and remove the piece of the core. Cut the top 3 inches off the candle and then cut a slit into the top of the candle to hold the place card. Put the candle in the hole making sure that it fits tightly. If the hole is too big, wrap waxed paper around the end of the candle. Carve designs into the skin of the apple using the tip of the potato peeler. Rub the designs with lemon juice to keep them from turning brown.
Any one of these decorations will be a hit on your Thanksgiving Table. Decorations can add more than just something to look at to your feast. Your decorations can make a statement, they can add a peaceful and serene atmosphere, and they can lift your spirits. Try making a theme out of decorating your table for Thanksgiving. You can make the decorations yourself or buy them at a retail store or craft store. Either way make sure your holiday table decorations say exactly what you want them to say this Thanksgiving.
