Bean Bag Toss
The great outdoors is a fun place to play, and provides people with hours of fun, but sometimes, the natural beauty and entertainment wears off, and you are in need of a game or two to keep things interesting. Toss games are a traditional way to test your skill at aiming, and enjoy some time spent out of doors. The following are a few fun outdoor toss games that you can play with your friends or family.
Beanbag toss: This game is simplistic in nature, but can be a great way to hone your arm, and your tossing skills. The way that you play this game is you create "targets" to toss to. You can do this by cutting out different sized holes in a board, and securing it so that it does not fall over as you toss toward it. You can place buckets or bins of various size or shape out to be tossed into. You can put things at different distances, closer and farther, to toss to. Then, you create a line from which you are required to toss, and a point system. The system can be determined by you, but a good general one is to allow a certain number of tosses, and you get one point per toss made. Then you take your bean bag, and start tossing. If you do not have a bean bag, you can use alternative items such as balls, rolled up socks, etc. No matter what you toss, the idea is to get a friendly competition going to see who can toss more accurately. Just make sure each tosser tosses from the same line, and uses the same items.
Xylophone
To make a xylophone you will need several tall glasses or jars, some water, and a mixing spoon. To make the different notes in the xylophone, fill the glasses or jars with different amounts of water. The more water there is in the glass, the lower the pitch will be. Conversely the less water there is in the glass or jar the higher the pitch will be. To play, gently strike the glasses with a mixing spoon. This craft is better suited for older children who have more develop motor skills and who will not tap the glasses so hard that the glass breaks or injure themselves in the case that there is a glass that falls.
So you see, there are plenty of different ways to make creative musical instruments out of materials that you will likely already have in your home. With a few helpful ideas you could even come up with enough instruments to create a creative musical instrument craft band!
